That’s why University Research Park – begun in 1984 – is planning for its next chapter, one that maps out a more vibrant urban feel with amenities igniting lively collaboration, entrepreneurship and community involvement.
Called the Element Collective, the development concept calls for 400,000 square feet of construction that initially includes Element Labs – a 147,000 sq/ft multistory laboratory and office building, and Element Hall – a community event and reception facility, and parking at the corner of Mineral Point Road and Whitney Way.
The Element Collective aims to broaden that creativity and contribute to the success of its companies in innovating to meet future challenges, while providing the community a new model for high-quality development.

Located at the prominent corner of Mineral Point Road and Whitney Way, Element Labs symbolizes the nobility of pursuing big ideas. Designed by Perkins + Will and constructed by J.H. Findorff & Sons and the teams under their leadership, Element Labs will deliver 147,000 square feet of state-of-the art laboratory and office space.
The soaring glass curtainwall speaks to the transparency of scientific inquiry and focusing daylight to clear away murkiness. The varying architectural fins break down the building into vignettes and remind us that no company is too small to chase a big idea.
It’s not just physical space, though. Element Labs is designed to help companies attract and retain talent and to encourage Madison’s scientific and technology community to gather.
Element Hall will provide a dramatic multi-functional space for all-hands meetings, shareholder presentations, scientific talks, company movie nights, holiday parties or a space just to hang out.
The 4,900 SF flexible work and event space has integrated audio-visual equipment. Seating for 140 occupants for lecture events and 240 standing. There is an indoor outdoor flex space for tenant use with a hospitality bar and folding wall to create seamless space integration (max 49 occupants)
